Markdown Viewer
Render Markdown safely, with a live outline of its headings.
About Markdown Viewer
Preview Markdown exactly as it will publish: GitHub-flavoured tables, task lists, fenced code blocks and an auto-generated outline of headings. Code is shown in a monospaced block without colour highlighting. Output is sanitised before rendering.
Markdown is written as text and read as a rendered document, and the gap between the two is where mistakes hide — a broken table, an unclosed code fence, a list that will not nest.
Preview it exactly as it will publish.

How Markdown Viewer works in your browser
Marked parses the document with GitHub-flavoured extensions enabled, so tables, task lists, fenced code blocks and strikethrough all render the way they will on a repository or a static site.
The rendered HTML passes through DOMPurify before it reaches the page. Markdown permits raw HTML, which means a document from someone else can contain markup you would not want executed — sanitising is what makes it safe to preview a file you did not write.
What you see is the structure the parser actually produced, which is the point. If a table is not rendering as a table here, the separator row is wrong, and no converter downstream will fix it.
When to use it
Checking a README renders correctly before pushing it. Reading a .md file on a machine with no editor that previews Markdown. Finding the unclosed code fence that has swallowed the rest of a document. Previewing a document before converting it, where the source is the real problem.

Frequently asked questions
Which Markdown flavour does it use?
GitHub-flavoured Markdown, so tables, task lists, strikethrough and fenced code blocks all render. Code blocks are monospaced but not colour-highlighted.
Is it safe to open a Markdown file from someone else?
Yes. Markdown permits raw HTML, so the rendered output is sanitised before it is displayed — scripts and event handlers are stripped rather than executed.
Does it generate a table of contents?
Yes, built automatically from the heading structure, so you can jump around a long document without scrolling.
