Is it safe to use online PDF converters?
Most online converters upload a copy of your document to a server you know nothing about. Here is what that means in practice, and how to tell which tools avoid it entirely.
What actually happens when you upload a file to a converter
A step-by-step account of where your document goes after you press the button, why "deleted after one hour" is harder than it sounds, and which claims you can verify yourself.
How to work with confidential documents safely online
A practical routine for handling contracts, payslips and client files with online tools — what to check before you start, what to strip before you share, and where the real leaks happen.
How to merge PDFs without uploading them anywhere
Combine several PDFs into one without sending them to a server — what changes in the merged file, what does not, and how to check the tool you are using really works locally.
How to convert PDF to Word without losing formatting
Why PDF to Word is never a perfect reproduction, which parts of a document reliably survive, and how to get the cleanest possible result from the conversion.
How to extract text from a PDF
Getting clean, usable text out of a PDF — why copy and paste produces a mess, why columns come out interleaved, and what to do when there is no text in the file at all.
Your documents.
Not our business.
Office Utilities processes documents on your device using locally loaded libraries. There is no document-upload step. Cached tools can work offline after their resources have loaded.
Usage analytics may record the tool used, never your filenames or document contents. Large files and conversion quality still depend on your browser, device and document.
Read the privacy modelA few useful answers.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Every tool runs inside your browser: the file is read into memory on your own device, processed there, and handed back as a download. You can confirm it by opening your browser’s network panel while you work, or by disconnecting from the internet after the page has loaded — the tools keep working.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up, no email address and no login. What is kept between visits stays in your own browser: display preferences and a history of recently used tools and file names (not the files themselves), which you can clear at any time.
Is it really free?
Yes. Every one of the tools is free with no limits on how many files you convert. The site is paid for by advertising and by donations, not by charging for the tools or selling data.
What file types are supported?
PDF, Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx, .xls, .csv), PowerPoint (.pptx), images, Markdown, HTML, JSON, XML and plain text. Drop a file on the home page and the right tool is suggested for it.
What are the limitations?
Because the work happens on your device, very large files are bounded by the memory your browser allows. There is no OCR, so a scanned PDF has no text to extract. PDF to Word infers structure rather than reproducing a layout exactly, and complex Word or PowerPoint layouts can reflow.
