Split PDF

Break one PDF into several documents.

About Split PDF

Split a PDF at chosen page breaks, into fixed-size chunks, or into one file per page. Preview every resulting document before downloading them individually or as a ZIP.

Splitting is the other half of merging, and it comes up whenever a document contains more than the person you are sending it to should receive.

Take a page range, extract several ranges at once, or break a document into individual pages. Each result is a real PDF rather than a view of the original.

  • Processed on your deviceEverything you open or type here is handled by this page and never uploaded anywhere.
  • No queue, no limitsNothing waits on a server, so the only limit is your own hardware.
  • No account neededNo sign-up and no email address required.

How Split PDF works in your browser

Splitting uses the same pdf-lib page-copying path as merging, in reverse: a new document is created for each grouping you ask for, and the pages you selected are copied into it.

Because pages are copied rather than re-encoded, an extracted page is byte-for-byte as good as it was in the original. There is no generation loss from splitting a file and there would be none from splitting the result again.

One thing worth knowing: content that lives at document level rather than page level does not follow a page into its new file. Bookmarks pointing at pages you did not take have nothing to point at, and a form field that was part of a larger form is no longer part of it. The visible page is unchanged; the structure around it is necessarily different.

When to use it

  • Pulling the three pages of a bank statement an application actually asked for, instead of sending twelve months.
  • Separating a scanned batch where several unrelated documents went through the feeder together.
  • Extracting one chapter from a manual to send to somebody who needs only that.
  • Removing an internal cover sheet or pricing annex before a document goes to a client.

Frequently asked questions

Can I split at specific pages rather than evenly?

Yes. Choose your own break points, split into fixed-size chunks, or produce one file per page — whichever suits the document.

Can I check the result before downloading?

Yes. Every resulting document is previewed first, so you can confirm the breaks landed where you intended before saving anything.

How do I get all the pieces at once?

Download them individually, or take the whole set as a single ZIP when a split produces more files than you want to click through.
