Excel to PDF

Print a worksheet to a tidy, paginated PDF table.

About Excel to PDF

Convert a spreadsheet into a PDF table with a repeating header row, automatic column widths, portrait or landscape orientation and an adjustable font size so wide sheets stay readable.

Spreadsheets are for working in; PDFs are for sending. Converting fixes the layout so the recipient sees the figures as you arranged them rather than as their own column widths render them.

The sheet becomes a paginated document with the table intact.

How Excel to PDF works in your browser

SheetJS reads the workbook and the selected sheet’s cells are laid out as a table, which is then paginated and written as a PDF. Cell values are rendered as they display in the sheet, so a formula appears as its result — which is what a reader of a report wants to see.

Wide sheets are the real problem in any spreadsheet-to-PDF conversion, and it is worth being clear about it. A table wider than the page has to be either scaled down or split across pages; there is no third option, and a sheet with fifty columns will not be comfortable reading whichever is chosen.

Charts, conditional formatting and images anchored to cells are not reproduced. The output is the data as a table, which is what most reporting and record-keeping actually needs — and stating it plainly is better than a conversion that silently drops half of what you saw.

When to use it

  • Sending a financial summary or invoice detail to somebody who should not edit the figures.
  • Attaching a report to an email where the recipient may not have a spreadsheet application.
  • Filing a fixed record of numbers as they stood on a particular date.
  • Printing a sheet with predictable pagination rather than fighting a spreadsheet’s own print settings.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to a very wide sheet?

The columns share the width of the page, so each one gets narrower and its text wraps. Switch to landscape and lower the font size to give them room; nothing is scaled automatically. A sheet far wider than a page is always a compromise between size and legibility.

Does the header repeat on every page?

Yes. The header row is repeated across pages, so a long table stays readable without flicking back to the first page to see what a column means.

Are formulas or their results shown?

The results, as stored in the workbook. A PDF is a fixed rendering of what the spreadsheet currently shows.
