SVG to PNG

Rasterise vectors at any scale, with transparency.

About SVG to PNG

Render an SVG to PNG at anything from half size to 8× its natural size, keeping transparency or filling a background colour. Ideal for turning icons and logos into raster assets.

An SVG stays perfectly sharp at any size because it is a set of drawing instructions rather than a grid of pixels. Converting to PNG fixes it at one resolution, so choosing that resolution is the whole decision.

Render at 1× to 8× scale, or at an exact pixel size.

How SVG to PNG works in your browser

The SVG is drawn by the browser’s own renderer onto a canvas at the size you asked for and encoded as PNG. Because the vector is rasterised at the target size rather than scaled after the fact, the result is as sharp as the format allows.

PNG is lossless and keeps the alpha channel, so transparency survives — which matters for logos and icons, where a JPEG would put a white box behind the artwork.

Export larger than looks necessary. Twice the display size is a sensible default for high-density screens, and an image cannot be sharpened afterwards. Keep the SVG, because it is the only version you can go back to.

When to use it

  • Getting a logo into a format an application will not take as SVG.
  • Producing a raster icon or favicon at exact pixel dimensions.
  • Putting a vector diagram into a document or a slide.
  • Rendering an SVG at high resolution for print.

Frequently asked questions

What size will the PNG be?

The SVG's natural size multiplied by the scale you pick, from 0.5× to 8×. To hit an exact pixel size, pick the nearest larger scale and then use Resize Image on the result.

Can I keep the transparent background?

Yes, or fill it with a colour. Transparency matters for logos over varied backgrounds; a fill is better where transparency would render as black.

Why convert a vector to a raster at all?

Because many platforms — app stores, social media, older email clients — will not accept SVG and need a fixed-size PNG.
