File Size Analyzer
newSee what is actually taking up space inside a file.
Try it: Inspect a presentation archive
Download the sample presentation
- Open the fictional two-slide presentation in this analyzer.
- Compare the media group with slide XML and other archive entries.
- Use the listed entry sizes to identify stored assets before editing the presentation in PowerPoint.
Archive entry sizes are measurements. PDF page results use heuristic drawing scores instead and cannot tell you the actual bytes occupied by each page or image.
About File Size Analyzer
Inspect measured entry sizes in DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and ZIP archives. For PDFs, compare heuristic drawing scores across the first 200 pages; these scores are not storage sizes.
A file that is too large is rarely uniformly large. Almost always one component accounts for most of it, and finding that component is the whole job.
Break a PDF, DOCX, XLSX, PPTX or ZIP into its parts and see what is heavy.

- No queue, no limitsNothing waits on a server, so the only limit is your own hardware.

How File Size Analyzer works in your browser
Office formats are ZIP archives, so the container is opened here and entries are listed with their compressed and uncompressed sizes. PDFs use heuristic drawing scores for up to 200 pages instead. PDF scores are not measured byte sizes and do not reveal individual font or image storage.
The answer is nearly always images. A single photograph placed at full camera resolution and displayed two centimetres wide can be most of a document, and it is invisible from the page.
Seeing the breakdown tells you what to do rather than leaving you to guess. One enormous image means replace that image; hundreds of small ones mean compress them all; a large content stream with no images means the document is genuinely long and compression will not help.
When to use it
Finding out why a document will not fit an attachment limit. Locating the one oversized image in a report before compressing everything. Understanding what a colleague’s 40 MB deck is actually carrying. Inspecting a container file’s contents without extracting it.

Frequently asked questions
Why is my PowerPoint so large?
Almost always one or two uncompressed images. This breaks the container into its parts and shows which images, fonts and streams account for the size.
Which formats can it analyse?
DOCX, XLSX, PPTX and ZIP entry sizes are measured. PDFs show estimated page drawing complexity, not measured bytes.
What does the proportional chart show?
For archives it shows the share of measured entry sizes. For PDFs it shows shares of a heuristic drawing score, not shares of file size.
