JPG to PNG
Convert photos to lossless PNG.
About JPG to PNG
Convert JPEG images to PNG for lossless editing or where transparency will be added later. Batch conversion is supported and EXIF orientation is applied so portrait photos stay upright.
Converting to PNG gives you a lossless container and an alpha channel. It does not give you back anything the JPEG already discarded.

How JPG to PNG works in your browser
The JPEG is decoded and re-encoded as PNG by the browser’s codecs. From that point on the image is lossless: it can be opened, edited and saved repeatedly with no further degradation, which is the actual reason to convert before working on a file.
What conversion cannot do is undo the original compression. The detail a JPEG threw away is gone, and storing the degraded result losslessly preserves the degradation perfectly. Always convert from the best original you have.
PNG supports transparency but cannot create any. A JPEG’s white background is part of the picture, not an absence of one, and removing it is an editing job rather than a conversion.
When to use it
Preparing a photograph for editing, so repeated saves do not degrade it. Getting a format that will accept transparency once a background is removed. Meeting a requirement for PNG uploads. Converting to a lossless format before compositing an image into a design.

Frequently asked questions
Will converting improve the image quality?
No. JPEG compression already discarded detail and PNG cannot restore it. What you gain is a lossless format for further editing without compounding the loss.
Why are my photos rotated correctly?
EXIF orientation is applied during conversion, so portrait photos from a phone stay upright rather than appearing sideways as they do in some viewers.
Will the file get bigger?
Usually yes, often substantially. PNG is lossless, so a photograph stored as PNG is larger than the same photograph as JPEG.
