About CSV to Excel
Convert CSV or TSV into a real Excel workbook with a frozen, bold header row, auto-sized columns and plain numbers typed as numbers rather than everything landing as a string. Codes with leading zeros, long reference numbers and dates are kept as text exactly as written.
CSV opened directly in a spreadsheet is where data gets damaged: leading zeros vanish, long numbers become scientific notation, and anything that resembles a date is converted into one.
Converting deliberately produces a real .xlsx workbook instead of leaving the file to be reinterpreted every time it is opened.

How CSV to Excel works in your browser
The file is parsed with PapaParse, which handles quoted fields, embedded commas, escaped quotes and line breaks inside cells — the cases that break a naive split on commas. The delimiter is detected from the content, so semicolon-separated files common in European locales are read correctly.
Parsed rows are written into a workbook by SheetJS and saved as .xlsx. Because the result is a real spreadsheet file with typed cells, the interpretation is fixed at conversion time rather than redone by whichever application opens the CSV next.
That is the practical benefit: a product code like 00123 stays 00123, and a 16-digit reference number stays a full number instead of being rounded and displayed in scientific notation. Once a spreadsheet has silently made those changes, the original values are not recoverable from the file it saves.
When to use it
Turning an export from a database, an analytics tool or a payment provider into a workbook people can actually work in. Protecting identifiers with leading zeros — postcodes, SKUs, account numbers — from being mangled on open. Preparing a file for colleagues who need filters, formatting and multiple sheets. Handling an export containing personal data, where a browser-based conversion keeps it off third-party servers.
Frequently asked questions
Will my numbers arrive as numbers?
Plain numbers, yes, and true or false become booleans. Anything with a leading zero or more than 15 digits is kept as text so it is not altered, and dates are kept as the text in the file rather than converted.
Does the output look presentable?
The header row is bold and frozen and columns are auto-sized, so the workbook is usable immediately rather than needing manual tidying.
What if my file is tab-separated?
That works too. The delimiter is detected from the file, so .tsv and delimited .txt files convert the same way.
