How Excel (XLSX) Creator works in your browser
The grid holds a plain cell model, and SheetJS writes that model out as a genuine .xlsx workbook — a ZIP of OpenXML parts, exactly what Excel produces. It is not a CSV with a different extension, which is what some "export to Excel" features actually give you.
Cell types are set deliberately at write time rather than guessed when the file is opened. A value entered as text stays text, which is how a product code like 00123 keeps its leading zeros instead of becoming the number 123 the first time the file is opened.
That is the practical reason to build a workbook rather than hand over a CSV: the interpretation is fixed once, here, instead of being redone by whichever application opens the file next.
When to use it
Producing a workbook on a machine with no spreadsheet application installed. Creating a template for colleagues to fill in. Turning a list you have typed or pasted into a file a finance system will accept. Building a small dataset without opening a heavyweight application for twenty rows.

Do formulas work?
Not in this release — the creator is aimed at capturing tabular data cleanly. For opening and analysing existing workbooks with formulas, use the Excel viewer and the Formula viewer tools.
